British bonuses enter the 10x era

Written by Vice city Editorial3 min read9370 reads

Britain’s revised rules for gambling promotions have been in force since 19 January 2026, replacing some of the industry’s most complicated offer mechanics with clearer boundaries. The Gambling Commission now prohibits promotion mechanics that require qualifying activity across two or more gambling products and caps bonus wagering requirements at ten times. Promotions with qualifying activity in one product remain possible, as does unrestricted bonus credit that customers may later use across products by choice. The result is a narrower, more legible bonus playbook rather than a blanket ban.

The 10x ceiling shortens the route to withdrawal

A wagering requirement tells a customer how many times bonus funds must be staked before related winnings can be withdrawn. Under the revised rule, that requirement cannot exceed ten times. A £10 bonus at 10x therefore involves £100 of qualifying play, whereas the Commission’s earlier example of a 50x requirement would have demanded £500. The ceiling applies to playthrough, not to the face value of the bonus, and it does not mean every offer must use a wagering requirement. Operators can set a lower multiple or design a promotion without one.

For customers, the practical improvement is a calculation that is easier to understand before opting in and less likely to extend play far beyond the value of the reward. For operators, the change reaches beyond the headline multiple. Progress meters, game-contribution rules, expiry terms, withdrawal handling and marketing copy all need to describe the same mechanic. If a promotion looks simple on a banner but requires a customer to reconstruct exclusions across several pages, it can still create the confusion and unfairness the wider social-responsibility rules are designed to reduce.

A reward cannot require play across product types

The Commission also banned mixed-product promotions that require customers to participate in two or more forms of gambling, such as placing sports bets and playing slots to unlock one reward. Research considered by the regulator linked gambling across multiple products with a greater risk of harm, while combined conditions made offers harder to compare. The prohibited mechanic is the linked qualifying journey: earning or unlocking the reward cannot require activity in more than one product category. This does not prevent an unrestricted credit or bonus that a customer may later use across products by choice.

That boundary changes planning for campaigns tied to qualifying play. Operators need product-specific eligibility logic, creative, terms and measurement rather than one qualifying journey that crosses a sportsbook, casino, bingo or lottery area. Affiliates and media partners also need the final, product-specific terms so a short promotion does not imply broader eligibility than the landing page provides. The rules do not eliminate every cross-site message, but the reward condition itself cannot depend on completing activity in multiple gambling products.

Simpler offers still require editorial discipline

The Commission restructured the relevant rewards and bonuses wording in its Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice to make expectations clearer. Since the rules are already active, the work is now operational: audit live campaigns, remove inherited templates that exceed 10x, remove reward conditions that require qualifying activity across products and make the route to withdrawal visible before sign-up. A shorter terms document is not automatically a fair one, and a 10x promotion can still be unsuitable for an individual customer. The best response is to treat the cap as a maximum, use plain language throughout the journey and design rewards that remain understandable without a calculator or a support conversation.

Proper withdrawal update: €250 deposit, €3740 cashout. KYC took about 15 mins, then the bank payout from Vice city landed 58 minutes later.

Gates of Olympus finally gave me the full screen. €1 bet, €10k win. KYC took around an hour and Vice city paid the next morning. Dubai booked the same day.

Stopped for fuel on the way home and still can’t believe this thing is mine. Put €200 into Wanted, got down to my last €38 and then the bonus went completely mental. Cashed out €11.4k from Vice city, added my savings and finally picked this up.

Full disclosure: the win didn’t buy my dad a whole car. But €14.8k from a max win covered a massive part of it. That was the best cashout I’ve ever made.

Turned €50 into €620 on Lightning Roulette. Didn’t feel like sitting there all night trying to make it 1k, so I cashed and took my girlfriend out.

Definitely didn’t buy an apartment from one slot 😂 But the €17k cashout covered the remaining fees, furniture and part of the deposit. Still a massive help.

Sweet Bonanza 1000 paid €3280 from a €60 bonus buy. Cashed everything except €100 and used it for this little sea escape.

One €100 bonus buy on Sugar Rush paid €4180. I don’t normally buy Apple stuff all at once, but this felt like the right time.

My old phone was dying anyway. Sweet Bonanza hit a 1200x, I withdrew €1300 and ordered this before the withdrawal even reached my card.
